Another piece of the puzzle is in place, as reported by the Globe:
Forward Shelden Williams has agreed to a one-year contract with the Celtics, according to an NBA source. Williams is expected to sign a deal worth the veteran's minimum salary of $1.306 million.
Williams, 25, was the fifth overall pick in the 2006 NBA Draft by the Atlanta Hawks after a decorated college career at Duke. He was a first-team All-American in 2006 and graduated as the program's all-time leader in blocked shots and rebounds.
I am a huge Duke fan (I hope I don't lose readers because of that) and was fortunate enough to witness Shelden in his prime at Duke. I know he's struggled mightily in the league, but hopefully playing with guys like Kevin Garnett and Rasheed Wallace will bring out the animal in him once again.
I said for a while that I still felt we needed a power forward who prefers to play in the paint. It didn't have to be a 20-10 guy by any stretch and in my eyes, Shelden fits the bill here. I won't guarantee he'll consistently 'wow' you, but he won't be afraid to bang inside with the second unit.
Also, I thought this was interesting from Marc Spears' Twitter:
The Cs agreed in principle to sign forward Shelden Williams, according to source. The signing will not have bearing on C interest in Davis.Stay Tuned.
