(DGA Productions)

By: Greg Payne

Here are three distinct reasons why Brian Scalabrine is the consummate professional:

July 13, 2009: Scalabrine and Bill Walker fly a group or students down to Washington D.C. to recognize their outstanding commitment to community service:
On Monday Celtics forwards Brian Scalabrine and Bill Walker toured the nation’s Capitol with approximately 15 students as part of the tenth annual ASSISTS Community Service Contest. Contest creators Southwest Airlines and the Boston Celtics flew the students for a field trip which also included a tour of other monuments and attractions in the Baltimore/Washington D.C. area.
July 27, 2009: Scal lends a hand at Seeds of Peace, which promotes peace amongst young international attendees:
Brian Scalabrine of the Boston Celtics and Gerald Henderson, a first-year player for the Charlotte Bobcats who is eligible to be assigned to the Maine Red Claws, are among the NBA standouts who are attending the Play for Peace basketball clinic at the Seeds of Peace International Camp today.

140 Israeli, Palestinian, Egyptian, Jordanian and American youth come to the Maine camp each summer to discuss the peace process in the Middle East. The NBA players will teach basketball fundamentals and help the teens learn about healthy competition.

July 30, 2009: Scal attends a presentation of the Celtics' 'Heroes Among Us program

“I’m loving Rasheed Wallace,’’ Scalabrine said last week at a State House presentation for the team’s Heroes Among Us program. “And Marquis Daniels gives us versatility. Those two things, I think, make us the best team in the league.

That's some impressive work, Scal. Keep it up. I love hearing about this stuff as opposed to steroids, night club shootings and dog fights. Why can't all professional athletes be like Scal?

Stay Tuned.
