From Gary Tanguay of CSN:
Bill Strickland, agent for Rasheed Wallace told me Rasheed has committed to Boston. Two years 5.9 million per year which is the mid level exception. Strickland said Rasheed did not bother to visit the other teams. The visit by Boston was all he and his wife, Fatima needed. Strickland joins me and Felger at 10P on Sports Sunday
And from the Globe:
An NBA source said tonight forward Rasheed Wallace has committed to sign with the Celtics Wednesday, the first day free agents are eligible to sign.
"Once (Wallace) had a chance to reflect on everything, and realizing what his objectives are, he just decided this was the best fit for him, all the way around," said Bill Strickland, Wallace's agent.
Wallace is expected to receive a two-year deal using the mid-level exception (expected to be about $5.6 million to $5.8 million).
Obviously this move has been highly anticipated and Wallace's talent alone has to vault us even higher towards the top of the standings heading into next season.
Personally, I'm curious to know if the Celtics knew this earlier today, as that report game out that Doc Rivers was meeting with Grant Hill down in Orlando. It could have been one of those, "Alright, Grant, Rasheed's on board, you're our next target. And if we can add you along with Rasheed, we'll be serious contenders", type of discussions.
How do we feel about this? We love Rasheed's talent, obviously, but what about his personality? Are we worried about that at all. I suppose I'm back and forth on that for now. Maybe KG can lock him down and keep him focused. But only time will tell. As for right now, I'm just excited that we added a significant piece to better our chances for next year's championship.
Stay Tuned.
